I’m pleased to announce a revised Midwinter Meeting schedule that adds a 1.5 hour “Conversation Hour” on Friday evening, moves the Board of Directors meeting (open to all D51 members) to Friday afternoon, and adds an hour to our retreat (open to all), which is now scheduled for Saturday afternoon/early evening. Our Friday events will take place in the School of Social Work on the main campus of the University of Michigan, where the American Men’s Studies Association (AMSA) conference is being held. The options selected for our Saturday meeting space (following the AMSA/SPSMM panel at the conference) are being negotiated and will be announced when finalized. Transportation will be provided to anyone who needs it if we happen to meet a mile or two off campus on Saturday. Please excuse any alignment issues in transferring the schedule to this email. Below the schedule is hotel information.

During the conversation hour, there will be time for members to interact in an informal setting and discuss with the Board of Directors members and appointed officers attending the Strategic Planning sessions ideas about the status and direction of our Division. As we prepare for the Strategic Planning sessions in Ann Arbor and Denver (at Convention), please look for an email within the next few days asking you to complete a very brief survey. We will review all of the data collected prior to the Midwinter Meeting, but as a final five-year Strategic Plan document will not be developed until after Convention, there will be other opportunities to provide input, such as the April 1st Conversation Hour.

Sincerely,

David Whitcomb, SPSMM President (2016)
